This is the car that started it all. Ferrucio Lamborghini made his fortune selling tractors after the Second World War, and as a lover of all things fast and furious, he owned a Ferrari. Legend has it that his beloved sportscar developed a clutch problem, but when he took it back to Enzo Ferrari with a suggestion on how to improve the clutch, Enzo insulted him by saying, “What does a tractor maker know about supercars? Go back to your farm and leave the supercars to me.” Lamborghini, being a wealthy and proud Italian, wasn’t taking this kind of treatment. He took his Ferrari home, fixed the clutch himself using tractor parts, and immediately started making plans to develop a new car company to knock Ferrari off its perch. (Gizmag)
The first model in the company's history of Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini is the one presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1963, Lamborghini 350 GTV with the 360-hp V12 engine. This, however, never went into production ! Unlike the former Ferrari models of the Carrozzeria Touring in Milan subscribed and 1964 mass-produced Lamborghini 350 GT and an independent suspension on the rear axle and had a 2 +1-seater was designed. Compared to the Lamborghini 350 GTV 350 GT has a longer wheelbase by 10 cm by 2.5 cm and a higher roof. Under the long bonnet of the Lamborghini 350 GT was doing befitting a 3.5-liter V12 engine with four overhead camshafts and "only" 280 hp its service. The lower performance of the Lamborghini 350 Gt results in part through the renunciation of the dry sump lubrication and has a different carburetor assembly. That was enough time but go for a top speed of 280 km / h A total of 120 Lamborghini 350 GT were built in from 1964 until 1966. The successor to the Lamborghini 350 GT was presented at the Geneva Motor Show 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT, which had a longer wheelbase and a true 2 +2-seater. The Lamborghini 350 GT retailed for $15,600 USD ($118,950 today).
