HONDA BRIO DIESEL INDIA

Honda India might shed its fore and introduce Brio’s diesel variant to tap into the car market. Honda is aware of the fact of how high is the demand for diesel cars in India. Although earlier according to market rumors Brio was expected to launch this  year but now Honda officials have denied that saying Honda Brio would possibly see the market in 2013. Honda has not yet revealed the Honda Brio price. Honda is looking forward to recapture its market share as it has seen 27% fall in sales during the first nine months of the current financial year. This fall in sales was largely because Honda was unable to introduce any diesel variant which has become popular in India due to soaring petrol prices. Honda is also ardent towards recapturing market share from its rivals VW and Toyota whose diesel cars account for a large chunk of their sales.

Honda is testing its recently developed diesel technology, common rail  i-DTEC on Brio and might introduce it in a 1.2-litre version. The i-DTEC technology nicknamed as "Earth Dreams Technology" application for other models and markets is expected to come in the form of Brio compact car for India in the preliminary stage. The company will later on introduce diesel variants in Honda City Sedan and Honda Jazz hatchback.
The company had previously planned to launch diesel vehicles in 2013. Honda is keen to bring its diesel technology here and is running rigorous tests at its research and development centre’s to make sure that Honda diesel is best suited to the local conditions and will offer optimum performance levels.
Honda’s production in India was also affected by lack of components after tsunami in Japan and flash floods in Thailand last year. The natural hazards led to a loss in production of 36% meaning 27,939 units in the April-December period. Diesel cars saw a 26% rise in sales whereas petrol cars registered a fall of 18% in the first three quarters of the current financial year. Diesel car sales accounted for about 60% of the passenger vehicles and for over 80% sales in models like Maruti Swift and Hyundai Verna, where both petrol and diesel options are present
