 Mercedes-Benz will take the wraps off the new CLA-Class in the coming months. The four-door compact executive coupe will also be available in AMG guise, slated to arrive during mid-2013. Like the new A 45 AMG, the future CLA 45 AMG will use a completely new powertrain consisting of the 2.0-litre turbocharged powerplant and the sports-tweaked 4MATIC all-wheel-drive platform.The all new powerplant was developed using the engine on the A 250 SPORT as basis - that is how the M133 engine got born. And the similarities end here, as every other component and technology used for the AMG unit is substantially unique. The petrol-running motor, already announced as one of the best engines in the industry, features state-of-the-art, intelligent turbocharging and two radiator for improved cooling in order to deliver a staggering 350 hp of peak output and an impressive torque of 450 Nm.With all that amount of power, controlability and handling were stringent issues to be urgently solved, given the fact we are talking about compact cars with a standard FWD architecture. The need for a proper way to transfer the output to the road was met with the development of special version of the 4MATIC system. In the configuration to be used on the A 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG models, most of the 350 hp (60%) will be channeled to the rear wheels in order to relax the pressure on the front wheels. The high torque will be consistently handled with the help of some clever differentials. 

 With this engine, the 2013 Mercedes Benz 45 AMG will be able to reach 100 km/h in around 4.6 seconds and boast a maximum speed of 250 km/h (electronically governed). Tobias Moers, head of RAndD at AMG, feels proud about his new little rockets, as they offer a great sensation whilst being driven combined with full predictability and safety.Sticking back to the CLA 45 AMG, the compact Mercedes-Benz will indeed look like a baby CLS 63 AMG. It remains unknown if designers have also applied the new design hallmark of AMG: the twin-blade radiator grille, but if the new A 45 AMG will have it, there's no reason brother CLA would not get it. Large air intakes, a prominent profile, some eye-catching wheels and quad exhausts will complete the distinctive look of the Affalterbach-prepped C 117. Inside, the AMG logos on the door sills and instrument cluster, the speedometer that ends at 320 km/h, the red area starting at 6,200 rpm, the carbon fibre slab on the dashboard and the refined leather upholstery will signal the CLA 45 AMG is one great machine eagerly looking to eat miles and miles of asphalt.
